How Dispatchers Can Speed Up a Roadside Repair Call
The right location, unit details, symptoms, photos, and urgency level can help a mobile repair company respond more efficiently.
The right location, unit details, symptoms, photos, and urgency level can help a mobile repair company respond more efficiently.
Get a Clean Location First
A repair call moves faster when the location is clear. Ask the driver for freeway direction, exit, mile marker, rest area, truck stop, yard name, gate, dock, customer address, or a pin drop. If the driver is on a shoulder, confirm which side of the road and whether the location is safe for service.
For yards and warehouses, provide gate instructions, contact names, check-in rules, and whether the unit is loaded or empty. A mobile repair provider may lose time if they arrive at the wrong gate or cannot access the truck.
Collect Unit and Symptom Details
Dispatch should gather the tractor number, trailer number, year or make if known, load status, and whether the problem is on the tractor, trailer, or both. Ask if the engine starts, if air pressure builds, if lights work, if there are visible leaks, and whether brakes or tires are involved.
The first description does not have to be perfect, but it should be specific. A message that says truck down is not enough. A better message is tractor builds air slowly, audible leak near trailer connection, loaded dry van at dock 12.
Use Photos the Right Way
Photos help when they are clear and close enough to show the issue. Good examples include a damaged air line, low coolant area, broken light, leaking fitting, flat tire, dashboard warning, loose cable, or trailer door problem. Photos should not replace the phone call, but they can help the repair provider prepare.
If the driver can safely send a short video showing the leak sound, flickering light, or failed start attempt, that may also help. Safety comes first, so drivers should not take photos in traffic or in unsafe positions.
